Four metal cutting processing methods

Metal cutting is the most commonly used process in mechanical processing, according to the different size and shape of the machine parts on the mechanical equipment, we need a variety of different methods for cutting. Therefore, metal cutting is also divided into many kinds, there are turning, milling and grinding. Today we will talk in detail about four methods of metal cutting processing.

1. Turning. Turning refers to the workpiece rotation as the main movement, the linear movement of the tool as the feed movement of the cutting process. Because the main movement of turning is the rotating movement of the part, turning is especially suitable for machining parts with rotating surfaces. Due to its high productivity, low production cost, wide range of machinable materials, easy to ensure the accuracy of the position of each machining surface, the turning process can generally be used for the outer circle, the hole, the end face and the cone.

2. Milling. Milling refers to the milling cutter rotation as the main movement, with the workpiece or the milling cutter as the feed movement of cutting processing method. Milling processing has high productivity, high processing accuracy, good heat dissipation conditions of the cutter teeth, easy to vibration, and milling is generally used in the surface processing of mechanical processing.

3. Grinding. Grinding refers to the method of machining the surface of the workpiece by rotating the abrasive tool at a high linear speed. Grinding processing generally has the following characteristics: high precision, small surface roughness; The grinding machine used for grinding has higher precision, better stiffness and stability than the general cutting machine, and has a micro-feeding mechanism, which can carry out micro-cutting; When grinding, the cutting speed is very fast, and each grinding edge only cuts a very small amount of metal from the workpiece, which is conducive to the formation of a smooth surface.

4.Planing. Planing refers to the cutting method in which the planer and the workpiece move in a horizontal direction relative to a straight line. The planer is simple in structure and convenient to adjust and operate in the process of processing, can process vertical and horizontal planes, and can also process T-slot, V-slot, etc. In addition, the productivity of planing is low, the processing accuracy is not high, the main motion of planing is reciprocating linear motion, and the tool is cut and cut out when the reverse impact is affected by the inertia force, a surface often has to limit the improvement of the cutting speed, so the productivity of planing is lower than that of milling.
